Nintendo’s Press Conference: a solution for Wii’s data storage issues
The solution wasn’t a Hard Disk, or a mysterious peripheral for the Wii. The solution taken by Nintendo for Wii’s data storage problems is a lot more simple and logical: the SD cards.
Wii has already an SD card reader, but until now, it was only possible to use those cards in an indirect manner: moving the games inside the SD cards, players could create back-ups, but it wasn’t possible to use those back-ups from inside the cards. From next Spring 2009 in Japan, date annouced by Satoru Iwata at Nintendo’s press conference, games downloaded from the Virtual Console or WiiWare will be able to be installed directly on the SD cards, solving Wii’s storage issues.
