Nintendo DSi: First reactions
“The new announcement by Nintendo hasn’t thrilled the investors”, says Yoku Ihara, Retela Crea Securities Com’s financial market expert as he mentioned the decrease in value (8.7% precisely) of Nintendo’s stocks after the announcement of the new portable console DSi
“The new DSi functions are nothing but minor changes that will hardly manage to amplify the user base for the Nintendo’s portable console”, says Ben Schachter, UBS Investment Research’s market analyst. “The currently DS users won’t be moving massively towards the new version. The DSi functions might make developers insert other features in their games, but they won’t convince users to purchase a new product”.
As we have mentioned in previous articles, the new Nintendo portable console will feature an internal web browser that allows dowloading of internet contents, a photo camera, bigger screens, an SD card reader and a smaller size.
Now there are new specs available: the console has higher quality speakers that create a higher volume than the current DS model. The internal picture editing software allows players to modify the pictures taken with the DSi and share them with other DSi users. They can also create daily diaries with the new pictures.
The music now uses the AAC compression format. The users can also fast-forward the music, register their own voice and modify the tones. The first two downloadable games, as we’ve mentioned in a previous article, will be Brain Age 1 and 2 and they’ll be available through the new DSi Shop.
