Deus Ex 3: First details about the gameplay
Deus Ex 3 was officially announced last November, but until today there was no further details on the gameplay characteristics. A gap filled by the PC Zone magazine number 200.
Deus Ex 3 configures itself as a prequel of the two other episodes. The story will take place on 2027 and it was written with the collaboration of Sheldon Pacotti, that was responsible for the story of the two first episodes. The game designers that created Deus Ex’s world, Harvey Smith and Warren Spector weren’t directly involved, but as the PC Zone article says, they approved what was created by Eidos Montreal.
The users play Adam Jensen, a scientist that works on a private office, doing researches on biomechanic updates. It’s, in a nutshell, a less refined version of the technology used on the previous two Deus Ex episodes. Adam’s life is changed completely when a group of military soldiers enter the main branch of the company he works for and seize control of the technology that Adam and his friends were developing.
Eidos Montreal’s objective is to create a game that can be enjoyed by the series’ fans but also by the less-experienced players. That way, some of the game mechanics were simplfied. For example, the fights will not depend on the character’s stats anymore, but only on the player’s ability to play with mouse and keyboard (on the PC version) and gamepad (on the console version).
The weapons will be enhanced, however. As the player advances in the game, he will be able to adapt his various weapons to his own gaming style, since it’ll be able to expand them with different upgrades. The covering system will have evident changes, and it won’t be completely based on shadows anymore.
The energy management system is also changed to one similar to those in Call of Duty. In a nutshell, if the character doesn’t receive damage enough to be killed, the wounds will heal automatically in a few seconds.
Deus Ex 3 will also feature 20 nano-mechanical updates that will give the game an RPG setting deepness. It will be possible, for example, to hang on walls or hit an enemy through a wall with a “mega-punch”. As it was revealed before, Deus Ex will follow the Tomb Raider technology.
For now there’s no official release dates. The game should be launched, however, for PC, PlayStation 3 and XBoX 360.
