Infinity Ward explains the name change for Modern Warfare 2
From the pages of MTV Multiplayer, the guys from Infinity Ward explain the reason behind the change on the game name from Call of Duty to Modern Warfare 2, the first title on the series to not feature the Call of Duty prefix.
“This is a direct sequel of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and what we’re trying to get across to our audience is that this isn’t just another one in the Call of Duty franchise, it’s a direct sequel to Modern Warfare. It’s something that never happened before, as the games are typically their own campaigns, totally unrelated to the previous one. This one is a direct sequel, and we just wanted to make that clear”.
It seems weird, however, that the whole Call of Duty name was taken away, as it could have had the same effect if the game had been called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but that’s the explanation for you. We remind you all that Modern Warfare 2 is scheduled to launch on November 10th.
